Under this new Passport Sewa E-Governance initiative which is going to be the brain child of external affairs minister S.M. Krishna (a tech savvy minister from Bangalore), 77 hi-tech state-of-the-art IT-enabled Passport Sewa offices are likely to come up across the country soon.
Once these offices are open to public, the long queues in front of the current Indian Passport offices may go away completely out of scene. In the present situation, a person normally has to wait like 3 hours just to get some information on his/her passport. The online passport status inquiry system which is in operation today is also not very reliable as in many cases, they give error message. With the implementation of the new technologies under thenew Passport Sewa E-Governance initiative, all this may become history.
